About Steelcase
Steelcase was founded in 1912 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and is one of the largest office furniture companies in the world. How to Choose a Steelcase Chair
Lumbar Control
The Leap V2 and Leap Plus are the only Steelcase chairs here with separate lumbar firmness control. The others adjust lumbar height only, or rely on LiveBack. See our lumbar support guide.
Manual or Weight-Activated Recline
The Leap V2 and Amia let you set recline tension yourself. The Think, Series 1 and Series 2 use weight-activated recline that sets itself, and the Karman adjusts automatically too.
Upholstered, Knit or Mesh
Most Steelcase chairs use upholstered or knit backs. If you run warm, look at the Think's 3D knit, the Series 2's Air LiveBack or the Amia Air.
Configuration
Arms, lumbar and headrest options vary by listing. Check each listing to confirm what is included.
Steelcase vs. Herman Miller
Steelcase tends to offer padded seats, more manual adjustment and higher weight ratings. Herman Miller tends to offer suspension seats, posture-focused designs and iconic looks.
